In the east of Malaga rises the “mountain of the lighthouse”. Here stands an ancient castle, which is badly damaged. At the foot of the hill is another castle – Alcazabar. This is the former residence of the Mauritanian rulers. The building is surrounded by powerful walls, behind which buildings of the 9th-10th centuries are hidden. Inside the castle, you can visit the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Ceramics.

Near the entrance to the Alcazabar are the ruins of a Roman amphitheater dating back to the 1st century. If you go from the Alcazabar along Calle del Sister, you will find yourself in front of the Cathedral of La Manquita, which means “one-armed” in Spanish. Indeed, the Cathedral has only one tower. Its construction began in the 16th century and continued for several centuries. As a result, it was never completed due to lack of money. Such a long construction led to a mixture of different styles – Renaissance, Baroque and neo-classical style. Inside the Cathedral is a Gothic altar and a statue of the Virgin Mary.
