Climate of United States

Climate of United States

Where is the country of United States located? The United States is a large country, with not only many different states, but also a large number of different climate systems. The climates in America range from a cold tundra climate to a tropical rainforest climate and almost every variant that exists is somewhere in between. There are also very large differences in terms of temperatures and precipitation. The northwest is wet, the southeast fairly wet and the central part of America is very dry.

Because the country is so large, we have chosen to display the information by state and to post specific climate information for different cities and regions. You can navigate to the desired climate information page via the search option at the top, the search option at the bottom and the map of the United States.

On vacation to America

A country like the United States is ideal for all kinds of holidays. Whether you like adventure, sports, relaxation, beach, culture, cities or nature…. the United States has it all to offer. You can choose to go to one destination, such as New York City or Orlando. Quite a lot of Dutch American travelers opt for a tour. This can be a fully mapped out tour, where the route is predetermined. You can also book a Fly&Drive, which includes flights, rental car and often the first night. Then you determine your own route. However you drive, a tour of the United States is always exciting.

Tornadoes

Whirlwinds or tornadoes are relatively common in America. The area most affected by this natural phenomenon is the central part of the United States ( Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska ) east of the Rocky Mountains. It hits this area about a thousand times a year, and tornadoes strike devastatingly.

Hurricanes

Just about the entire east coast and southeastern US are at risk of being hit by hurricanes. Most activity is measured in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Louisiana. The hurricane season lasts from June to November and every year there are about 5 to 10 hurricanes in the Caribbean, which can sometimes have disastrous consequences. Because hurricanes announce themselves days in advance and the path the hurricane will follow is often fairly predictable, in most cases measures can be taken in time, from boarding up windows to evacuating residents and tourists if necessary.

Best time to visit the United States of America

Do you want to know when is the best time to travel to the United States of America? You can determine the best time to travel to a destination based on the weather and climate. In addition, there are other factors that are not directly related to the weather and that can influence the best travel periods for a travel destination. Think, for example, of holidays or festive periods, which makes traveling more interesting or not, because daily life comes to a standstill as a result.

All months are suitable

If you ask someone the question “What is the best time to travel to the United States of America?”, you can expect a reply in return. It will probably be first “Where do you want to go in America”, followed by a second question that is “And what do you want to do on vacation?”. These questions are a normal response, because the United States is so large and diverse that there is no single answer. You can actually say that you can travel to America all year round, but it depends on your travel purpose and travel destination what the best months for that are.

Travel around

If you want to make a trip through America, you can say that the period from May to September is generally the best travel period. There is a small ‘but’ to this: if you want to visit the higher mountain areas within the Rocky Mountains, some main roads are not fully passable until the end of June or even the beginning of July. You will have to take this into account in your planning. If you’re traveling in April or October, you’ll avoid the biggest crowds in the national parks, but you’ll also need to consider possible wintery weather in places at higher elevations. Alaska should be forgotten in April and October. The conditions are often too bad to drive around with a camper or rental car. Florida and the coastal areas of California are excellent to drive all year round. In the case of the lower half of Florida, we would recommend January through May rather than the hotter and wetter second half of the year.

Winter sports

The United States is an excellent winter sports destination. The Rocky Mountains and the Cascade Mountains in particular have a large number of places where you can go skiing, cross-country skiing or other forms of winter sports. But you can also stand on the slats in California. For winter sports holidays, it generally applies that the first slopes open in October and that winter sports can still be done on the higher slopes until the beginning of summer.

Sun holiday

There are a large number of places in America where you can celebrate a holiday in the sun. For a large part of the country, the summer period is the most ideal for this. There are a few exceptions to this. For example, the southern part of Florida is very warm, quite stuffy and fairly unstable in the period from June to November. The coastal areas of California are suitable for a holiday in the sun for much of the year. The seawater in the northern regions is significantly cooler there. From Los Angeles and further south, the water is warmer. May through October is fine for the Hawaiian archipelago. The leeward side often has more rain and clouds.

City trip

If you want to make a city trip to America, you can do that all year round. There are some cities that you might want to avoid in the winter and there are also some cities that are too hot in the summer or in the second half of the year. The cities located in the northern states or in the central states can experience heavy snowfall or extreme cold during the winter. In particular, cities such as Chicago, Detroit, Duluth as well as New York City can experience extreme winter weather. In the summer it is the cities located in southern states such as Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and Florida that can be too hot and stuffy. From June/July, the cities along the Gulf of Mexico and on the east coast of America can experience tropical storms and heavy rainfall. There is even a chance of a hurricane in some areas.
