Bermuda owes its name recognition to the Bermuda Triangle, which lies between Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Miami. In the triangle, a large number of ships have inexplicably disappeared. Bermuda is known as a tax haven and this is the main source of income for the archipelago. Tourism is Bermuda’s second source of income. Most tourists come here to dive or snorkel among the shipwrecks or the beautiful coral reefs. Bacardi is headquartered in the capital Hamilton. The city of St. George’s is the largest and oldest city in Bermuda. Bermuda has a warm maritime climate, which is greatly influenced by its location in the North Atlantic Ocean. The islands are heated by the warm Gulf Stream that flows along them and the westerly wind belts that blow along them. These winds bring warm, moist air from the east to the islands. In the winter months, winds from the Arctic can bring extremely cold air that’s around freezing, causing temperatures in the Bermuda Islands to drop to 10 degrees Celsius. However, these are extremes that rarely occur, the cold record is 7.2 degrees Celsius. In the hottest months of the year, the average humidity is quite high. Tropical storms and hurricanes can occur in the second half of the year.

If you want to fly to Bermuda for a beach holiday, it is better to do so in the summer. Then it is warm enough to enjoy the sun.

If you look at the combination of precipitation, temperature and sunshine, our preference for a holiday in Bermuda would be the months of April and May. In general, the period from April to July is seen as the best time to travel to Bermuda.

Precipitation

You have a chance of rain all year round. On an annual basis there is approximately 1400-1500 millimeters of rain, which is fairly evenly distributed over the year. The months of April and May are slightly drier, the month of August is slightly wetter than average. In the summer precipitation mainly falls in heavy showers that mainly take place at the end of the day. Not infrequently, such showers are accompanied by thunderstorms.

Hurricanes

Bermuda is located in the Hurricane Zone, where hurricanes can occur during the hurricane season that runs from June to December. These types of severe tropical storms are not an annual phenomenon. Because Bermuda is located fairly far north within the hurricane zone, most hurricanes have already lost quite a bit of strength before they come near Bermuda. Hurricanes of the heaviest categories are therefore quite rare.
