Climate of Andorra
Where is the country of Andorra located? The mini state of Andorra is located in the Pyrenees, sandwiched between France and Spain. Officially, Andorra has a moderate maritime climate, but because Andorra is on average at an altitude of almost 2000 meters, it is referred to as a high mountain climate according to the Köppen system. Andorra’s location within the Pyrenees means that disturbances can sometimes linger for extended periods of time, resulting in days of gray and often rainy weather.
Due to the high location, it can get fairly cool in the winter months. In winter there is therefore regular snow. If there is a layer of snow, it can cool down considerably, especially at night. In the highest areas, the snow can remain until summer. Because of the mountains and snow, Andorra is a good area for winter sports.
Summer
Summers are quite wet and it doesn’t get really hot quickly. Due to the high location, temperatures in the summer months often remain below twenty degrees. Even at night it is not warm: the temperature almost always drops below ten degrees. Anyone who wants to book a sun holiday in Andorra will therefore have to take into account that summer weather is absolutely not guaranteed. However, the moderate temperature ensures that it is excellent hiking weather. Summer is also an excellent time in Andorra for other outdoor sports.

What kind of weather you can expect in Andorra is mainly determined by the altitude and location. For example, the maximum temperature in the capital Andorra La Vella, which is about 1000 meters above sea level, is around 24 to 27 degrees Celsius in July and August, while the mercury in the higher town of Soldeu (1800 meters above sea level) is often below the twenty degrees remains.
The winter
In winter it is cool to very cold in Andorra. Especially above two thousand meters there is quite heavy snowfall. In lower-lying areas it can be better than expected and the precipitation does not always have to have a winter character. The winter weather causes two things: a number of roads are sometimes closed by snowfall and you can enjoy winter sports in Andorra. There are two major ski areas in Andorra: Grandvalira and Vallnord. If you want to go skiing or snowboarding here, it is best to do so in January or February. These two winter months are the most snow-sure.
