Tim Cook rides the Apple headquarters in Cupertino with Ginni Rometty (CEO of IBM)
Apple and IBM just announced a strategic partnership at the global level to promote the use of the iPhone and iPad in the enterprise. The two giants join forces in a historic pact to conquer a market where traditionally highlighted BlackBerry (whose shares have fallen by 3.7% in the after hours of New York).
The Alliance, which have decided to call IBM MobileFirst, four levels: software, services, support and distribution. Apple and IBM will collaborate on the development of more than a hundred specific solutions for the corporate environment, exclusive to iOS. IBM will optimize its services in the cloud for the Apple operating system, while Apple will offer a new type of support of AppleCare adapted to the needs of the company. Finally, IBM can sell, activate and manage iPhones and iPads preloaded services.
By which IBM? For what Apple?
We don’t know who is proposed by who, but both have much to gain. Apple has much room for growth in the company and IBM is a partner with long travel in Analytics, cloud, management of big data and other specific services for corporate clients. Apple will sell more iPhones and more iPads in the company, but IBM will not be one distributor either because it will be selling its services in the bundle; While collaboration between both get value added: the exclusive MobileFirst productivity applications on a platform known for hardware and system integration.
The distribution, IBM will offer special packages within the program “IBM MobileFirst Supply and Management” for the provision, activation and management of iPhones and iPads equipped with these applications and specific services. It will also offer rental equipment, as it comes when Apple on its leasing program.
