How to Choose the Right Fishing Float

Some simple criteria used to select from hundreds of designs …

The float is one of the main elements of the line and its many functions. The first is to inform us the key. Thanks to its sensitivity, it should reflect any attack of a fish.
The float must also support leaded and evolve the bait to the desired height. It must allow a perfect driving line and ensure good stability whether high winds or currents even stronger. Finally, it must oppose a minimum dent resistance, ie, when the fish grabs the bait.
Depending on the water, the wind, distance and depth of fishing, the fish sought the bait used … the ideal float model is different.

The shape

The first criterion that should guide the choice of the fishing float is its shape. It mainly depends on the type of water. Although there are many variations, only three forms account for the vast majority of them. Floats tapered These long floats and small diameter. Of great sensitivity, they penetrate deeply into the water at the slightest touch. They are intended for ponds, canals, lakes, lazy rivers and recommended for surface and midwater fisheries. They are ideal for peaches pulp, because the chesnevis sensitivity allows the angler to react in a few tenths of a second. Floats stocky generally pear-shaped, olive, big ball … these floats have a large bearing on water and are suitable for large rivers, rivers … wherever the currents are strong. They support a very large leaded power down quickly near the bottom. Floats drop These floats are the most versatile and with the exception of strong currents, they can be used in all types of water. In a good wind resistance and very stable in the wave, they are recommended for catching fish difficult to detect and the keys tell raise or slow keys.

The lift

It is expressed in grams or tenths of a gram. It is the mass of weights it takes up on the line to compensate for the buoyancy of the float.
To choose the ideal bearing, it should consider three parameters. The first is the type of water. In large river and strong currents, it is imperative that the line down quickly, the lift of 2-20 g is needed. Pond or canal, 0.20 to 2 g are enough to get off on the bottom.
The second parameter is the depth. The higher the position is deep, the longer it takes to fish heavy. The third is the water level that is desired prospect. When fish are present at various levels (mid-water), it is interesting to fish lighter for keys during the descent of the bait. In contrast, most fish feed on the bottom, the longer it takes down quickly and thus fish heavy!

The keel

Whether on a sailing boat or a float, the keel is important because its function is the same: to stabilize the “craft”. Over the keel is heavy, plus the float is recovering quickly. The longer it is, the more stable the wave or high winds. The keel can be made of metal, fiberglass, bamboo, plastics, carbon. It can measure from 1 to 25 cm.
On a small float with a very long and very heavy metal keel, the number of seals on the line will be small. Although the float recovers quickly, the line she will fish slow down.
In contrast, one large float with a small keel balsa will take to recover, but the bait, it will descend quickly thoroughly, thanks to the large number of pellets on the line.

The antenna

The principal use of the antenna is to make the float visible. There are four major types of antennas.
The metal antenna has the advantage of quickly sink to any key if the float is balanced with just. The main drawback is its poor visibility, especially over long distances. This type of antenna is preferred for fishing in calm water near the edge.
The plastic antenna of a larger diameter. Because of its density, it is a reserve buoyancy. It is ideal for fishing the great river cane. The third type is made of the same material as the float, balsa, carbon … Short and stocky, this antenna is perfect for all fisheries to drag on the bottom in large river and river.
The last is hollow and favors visibility through its large diameter without either cumbersome or losing sensitivity. It is irreplaceable for fishing at great distances.
The color is a matter of taste but especially brightness. If in doubt, it is best to select a two-color fluorescent pattern, red-yellow.
